1976 I wrote my first book for KOSMOS editors "Britische Hütehunde" (British sheepdogs) which was also the beginning of my dog photography career. I extended my activities to other breeds and took a special interest in breeds that I was still able to meet in their natural habitat at their traditional work. With the book "KOSMOS Hundeführer" (Dog breed guide) I was able to fulfil my dream in creating a book on dog breeds which not only described their looks but also their origin and behaviour. It turned out to be a bestseller over nearly 20 years. First published in 1990 it was totally revised in text and photos with many additional breeds in its 4th edition which already had to be reprinted in 2004. The "Hundeführer" was published in many European countries and Japan where it also was a bestseller. Meanwhile I am proud on the Chinese and Russian versions and other languages coming up. During the last two years I was occupied preparing the 5th totally revised edition which will appear in March 2009. I was amazed to find so many new breeds being cultured in various countries or created by dedicated breeders. All standards were checked and my own experience and research over the years added so it truly is a new book. But 2007 saw me photographing and writing three chapters of a large general dog book plus a few smaller dog books in between. My greatest joy however were my visits to Wales to study the Welsh Sheepdog. I am looking forward to the new year as soon as the skies open for getting out again to "catch the dogs".
